Advantages & Disadvantages of Hardshells

Hardshells are functional jackets consisting of several layers that feature a membrane or coating that makes them waterproof and breathable at the same time. This means they provide perfect protection against wind and weather. They are absolutely waterproof, windproof and breathable. In addition, they are characterized by their durability. However, the material feels less soft to the touch and maintenance is somewhat more complex.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Softshells

Softshells are the true all-rounders of functional textiles. They combine optimal weather protection with insulation, thus protecting against moisture and insulating at the same time. The stretchy material feels very pleasant to the touch and is permanently water-repellent, windproof or even windproof, depending on how it is processed. However, they’re not absolutely waterproof.
