Sustainability
Why VAUDE footwear leaves behind a smaller footprint
Going the eco-friendly and fair route… This is what drives us and at the same time is the matter closest to heart. We are consistently pursuing a “green” path with integrated concepts and sustainably innovative products.
The following Green Shape features make your footprint even smaller when you’re wearing VAUDE footwear:

Terracare® – certified leather
We only use Terracare® leather from Heinen Leder in Germany. Its high level of environmental sustainability is your guarantee for best wearing comfort and resource-conserving and environmentally-friendly manufacturing.
PVC free
Because we care about nature, we do not use any harmful PVCs in the production of our shoes.
Recycled Materials
Wherever possible, we use recycled materials in your shoe, for example in the lining, outsole and midsole. This not only reduces waste, but also helps conserve valuable resources.
Renewable/biobased materials
In addition to recycled materials, we also use renewable plant and animal-based raw materials to save fossil resources.
Eco Finish
We use an Eco Finish DWR for all shoes where this makes sense and current technology permits it. We apply this water-repellent finish to your shoe’s upper, so that water pearls up and runs right off – without the use of any environmentally harmful fluorocarbons (PFCs). This protects you from the rain and keeps nature clean.
Sympatex® membrane
The Sympatex® membrane not only keeps you warm and dry, it’s also more ecological than other membranes… made of 100 % pre-consumer, recycled material, it’s also recyclable in its turn and, of course, absolutely PTFE-free.
Ceplex Green Membrane
Ceplex Green ensures that your shoes are reliably waterproof, windproof and breathable. Our shoes are made with up to 25 % recycled or biobased materials, and at the same time are 100 % free of environmentally harmful fluorocarbons (PFCs).
Organic Cotton
Our certified organic cotton is produced in accordance with stringent environmental standards – with no chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and lower water consumption than conventional growing methods. After all, we want you to feel good with our product.
European production in Portugal
We produce some of our shoes in Europe, more precisely in Portugal. This saves us and, above all, the environment a lot of transport, because our suppliers are located very close to the production site. The route to the shops is also much shorter, as we only ship within Europe. All models produced in Portugal can be resoled and therefore have a much longer product life. At the end of their product life, the individual components can be separated and recycled.
