Children love the outdoors and they also love adventure. Products specifically designed for kids help ensure that nothing casts a shadow over their fun and that their physical development isn’t compromised. Safety and visibility are also top priorities in kid-friendly products.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
Our children’s backpacks are made with the utmost care to ensure safety and comfort. Kids love to move, and kid-friendly products make it easier to concentrate on the fun. All VAUDE children’s backpacks are rigorously tested by the kids in our childcare center, who give us first-hand, honest feedback so that we can optimize our packs.
Clean & PFC-free
Children’s products have to be made from materials that are exceptionally high quality. This is the only way to ensure that no hazardous substances are present. The Green Shape label from VAUDE stands for environmentally friendly, functional products made from sustainable materials. Children’s backpacks have to offer multifaceted protection, especially in adverse conditions. Normally this means using fluorocarbons (PFC) in order to make the outer surface waterproof and dirt repellent. But these man-made compounds are suspected to be hazardous to health. At VAUDE we have completely eliminated the use of fluorocarbons in our products. Instead, an impregnation is used that is environmentally friendly, 100 % PFC-free and still allows water and dirt to bead up and roll off. The name: Eco Finish.
This water and stain resistant finish is applied to the outer fabric of your product so that water pearls up and runs right off – without the use of environmentally harmful fluorocarbons (PFCs). This protects you from the rain and keeps the planet clean. Regular reapplication is necessary for permanent waterproofing and stain resistance.

Recycling & Natural Materials
We try to make each of our products as sustainable as possible, so our children’s backpacks are made of 50% recycled PE and robust, durable natural materials such as hemp or organic cotton.

FEATURES & FUNCTIONALITY
The musculoskeletal system of a child is not a miniature version of that of an adult. It is therefore extremely important in childhood to choose appropriate products and also to make sure that the load is never too heavy for a child. Children should just carry the bare necessities, like a water bottle and their favorite stuffed animal, to avoid ending up with a load that’s too heavy for them and could lead to long-term health problems.
Easy handling
Because of their shape, all buckles and zippers on our children’s backpacks are particularly easy to close and open for children’s hands.
Adjustable suspension system
Children’s packs should be designed specifically for children’s bodies and their own special needs in order to avoid harm and provide the greatest level of comfort possible. Since children grow so quickly, their backpacks need to be adjusted on a regular basis. Ergonomic shoulder straps can be tailored to the needs of children so that they never dig into their shoulders. Especially soft materials are used near the neck so that nothing chafes and the pack stays comfortable. A child’s body is also changing rapidly. This is why VAUDE children’s backpacks have integrated height-adjustable sternum straps. You could almost say that our backpacks grow along with the child.
Increased visibility
See and be seen – a vital principle in road traffic. A child’s risk of being overseen by a vehicle at dusk or in poor visibility conditions is serious. Reflective elements on the front as well as on the back of the backpack increases your child’s visibility.
Easy Fit shoulder straps
Some of our children’s backpacks are equipped with Easy Fit shoulder straps. The straps can be easily closed crosswise with a velcro strap. So the backpack sits firmly and comfortably on the back and even the “little ones” can put on the backpack by themselves.
We recommend the Easy Fit shoulder straps for children up to 5 years.
