Care instructions for Shoes
Repair instead of throw away and warranty
We are proud of our products and we develop every detail so that you can enjoy them for as long as possible and leave as small an ecological footprint as possible, in the truest sense of the word. However, almost no piece of equipment is exposed to as much stress and wear as shoes …
But wear and tear or damage doesn’t have to mean the end for your favorite piece. Below you will find some things you can do yourself to make your shoes last longer:
Shoelaces and how to tie them properly
Sounds banal, but it is one of the simplest measures. If a shoelace breaks, simply put in a new one. Your local sports retailer or cobbler has many variations and lengths in stock.
This is how I tie my laces correctly:
Make the first loop and tie the second lace twice around the loop, then pull through the loop and tighten. The advantage to this knot is that it can be untied very quickly.
Loose or loosening adhesions
Here you have the option of either using the right adhesive yourself or going back to the cobbler – he can glue pretty much everything back on “like new” …
It can happen that a seam on the shoe comes loose or even opens up – your local cobbler can quickly remedy this. Shoemakers have powerful industrial sewing machines and can easily put a new seam on your …
On some of our shoe models we use the Boa® quick lacing system. We have chosen it not only because of the perfect function and handling, but also because of the reparability. We offer through our VAUDE repair service all spare parts to bring tension back into your broken Boa® lacing.
You can contact the repair service here.
You can also find a short tutorial directly on the Boa website.
Abrasion inner shoe
You probably know the problem: The inner material in the heel area is worn down. Here, too, a visit to the cobbler often works wonders – he can glue on materials of different thicknesses, hard and soft, and fix the problem.
For which complaints is there a warranty claim?
VAUDE products of course also have a warranty – here you can check whether a warranty claim exists for your defective product.

How to clean my outdoor and cycling footwear?
In principle, you can start your adventures with your new VAUDE shoes without any special treatment. After a certain time or after „hard work“, your shoes need some care to remain fully functional – especially leather shoes. Here are some useful tips and tricks:
Remove the insole and laces, then remove the dirt with water and a nylon brush. Most suitable is Nikwax cleansing gel for shoes. The insole can be washed separately.
Let the shoes air dry, some old newspapers stuffed inside will help. Please do not dry in direct sunlight or close to any heat sources, otherwise the materials can quickly dry out.
Natural products such as leather always contain some moisture in order to remain formable. Rapid heating may causes the material to crack.
Waxing your leather shoes
As mentioned above, leather requires a certain degree of moisture to stay smooth. This is done by regular application of care wax. Please do not use grease or oil. Rub in the care wax with a clean towel.
We recommend Nikwax impregnation wax for leather. Here is also a small sponge on the tube for gentle working in.
Attention: Once the care wax is applied, the outer material will become slightly darker!
After waxing, impregnate the leather shoes generously.
But also shoes with a built-in, waterproof membrane should be impregnated by times to keep the full functionality. A wet, full-sucked outer material is like a barrier and significantly degrades the breathability of the membrane.
It is best to impregnate the shoes after cleaning, when they are still a bit wet. Then the treatment can penetrate deeper into the pores.
Nikwax fabric and leather impregnation are suitable for textile and leather shoes.
Nikwax care products are available from your local retailer.
As a general rule: please note all instructions printed on the care products.
